Phantom

The Phantom's first appearance was in 1936. He was the first fictional hero to wear the skin-tight costume that has become the hallmark of comic book superheroes, and he was the first to be shown wearing a mask with no visible pupils (another standard for superheroes). So he was a pioneer for later comic heroes.
